Botanic Gardens Llanarthney

The Welsh Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens Wales

The spectacular glasshouse at the Botanic Gardens Wales is just one reason to visit this great visitor attraction. The gardens are all interesting regardless of the weather and there is so much to explore that it will take a whole day.

The bee garden is an inspiration whilst the walled gardens may make you envious and rethink your veg plot.

There is always an event happening, butterflies emerging in the orchid house or flowers coming into bloom no matter what time of the year it is.

The playground and cafes make it a great family day out.

Dolaicothi Gold Mines – the tour

A short drive down the road from Llansadwrn and you can go on a tour of the gold mines. You can pan for gold in the streams (you never know your luck), explore the old mining machinery, learn about how the Romans used to look for gold here or just explore the beautiful valley.

The land around the mines is a mixture of woodland (full of birdsong and bluebells) and managed farmland. The beautiful mosaic is punctuated by the River Cothi as it winds its way down through beautiful walking country.  Dolaicothi Gold Mines  is a great day out. When the mine is open there is also a cafe open on site. The pub in Pumpsaint offers excellent food and beer.

Set in the glorious nature reserve which is full of bluebells in spring and links to the wider Dinefwr Park this whole site is managed beautifully and well worth a visit at any time of the year.

There is an accessible car park up near the castle which enables people with wheelchairs to get up close.
