Llanwrda and Llansadwrn Countrywomen
Our first meeting of the New Year on 7th January 2019 was held in the old school hall in Llanwrda and proved to be very educational for all.
Lyndsey Maiden joined us to introduce the revamped web site for Llansadwrn. The information on the site covers clubs, activities and events; useful resident information and telephone numbers for numerous organisations, timetables for local transport and details of community council meetings and much more.
Lyndsey explained and demonstrated how to use the menus and how to post information to keep the site current and relevant and encouraged us to make contributions from Llansadwrn and local villages.
Lyndsey followed this with a brief session on the basic use of smart phones for those of us not yet in possession of such a piece of equipment and help for those struggling with problems and not getting the best from their new phone. Overall an enlightening lesson.
Our next meeting will be open to non members and will be held in the Reading Room Llansadwrn on Monday 4th February 2019 at 7:30 when Tony Birdwood will give a talk “The Heart of Wales Line”.

Since the Community consultation in November the volunteers charged with setting up the Llansadwrn Community Garden have been hard at work preparing its Constitution and Policies, opening its bank account and arranging insurance.
In addition the Community Garden received a generous donation from the Reverend Vanessa Hope-Bell in memory of her son Joel.
As a result on the morning of Saturday February 2nd the first actual action in the Garden will take place. Two varieties of apple, Sunset – a good cropping eater and Tin yr Wydd (The Goose’s Bottom) – a local variety of cooker will be planted. Some locally sourced native bulbs will also be dug in.
Everyone is welcome to get involved, help out or just come and have a look and a chat.
The Garden is for everyone so don’t be shy.

We’re in that final build up to Christmas and there’s plenty to cheer up even the most humbuggish. We’ve got Christmas Tree Lighting in Llanwrda on the 5th, Cawl and Carols on the 7th, Vestry Venture Mulled Wine and Christmas treats on the 11th and the Christmas tree lighting (carols and Llandeilo Town Band!) at the Reading Room on the 13th.
And finally we also have the fabulous Sinema Sadwrn organising two free Christmas films on the 21st of December, massive thanks to Cliff at the Sextons for being the host and the Reading Room Committee and Community Council for ensuring the showings could be free.
There will also be supper from Gardd Sadwrn to stave off the hunger. A choice of organic hotdogs, veggie hotdogs (with all the trimmings you can imagine), Gardd Sadwrn grown roast pumpkin and bean chilli which you can dress with sour cream or salsa or roasted corn, tortilla chips, sour cream, salsa and cheese. There will be bigger meals for bigger appetites and snacks for the grazers.
Pudding yet to be revealed…..
(oh no you didn’t)
(oh yes you did)….
Tim Burton blends Christmas and Halloween together in his 1993 stop-motion film in a way that’s both spooky and heartwarming all at the same time.
The film tells the story of Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween Town, who stumbles through a portal to Christmas Town and decides to celebrate the holiday, with some dastardly and comical consequences.

In this Christmas classic, an old man going by the name of Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade.
Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain’s main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity.
